Taking a Break...

Last night I got to the breaking point...no, not with my job as some might think considering youth convention is less than 1 week away. I took up a love with Madden NFL football several years ago back to the days of the Sega Genesis. I would have even called myself somewhat of an expert of the game. Ok just thought about something...I started playing football video games back on the original Nintendo...Techmo Bowl and then Techmo Super Bowl...by far my favorite...Last year I purchased the Playstation 3. One of the first games that I picked up for it was Madden 09. The playstation 3 was the first system that I have owned that I could actually go online and play against anyone else in the world with the same game and station as myself. I loved this considering easports kept track online all your stats (I am a stat geek) and your level advancements. Last year I never got past level one and I thought this was because I bought the game late in the season and just couldn't catch up with the veterans. This year...I bought Madden 10 the day it came out and went right to playing online because I wanted to see how high I could get in the levels. So for the past 3 months I have been spending all my "extra" time trying to beat people online at Madden. My record currently stands at 59 and 59...All but 5 or 6 wins comes against level one opponents like myself. I am still level one after 3 months...Last week I discovered that easports would email you your stats so I checked the box...In my first email they told me that I was only 200 points away from going to level 2...The goal I have been shooting for for 3 months...So for the past week the games that I won and lost meant a little more than before...I saw the goal...After the past week of playing I am now some 500 points from getting to that level 2. I have backslid...

Here is the deal...My attitude has been less than stellar for the past couple of weeks. I am sure there is more to it than Madden but after my loss last night at 7:00...I thought I was going to throw my ps3 remote through my TV. Then I had plans of launching my Madden game out the door like a frisbie to see how far it would go and then I would finish the night off by taking a sledge hammer to the PS3 system...

I refrained and ejected the disk...put it in the Madden 10 box...and handed to my wife. I told her to hide it for a week because it is affecting my attitude. Today is a brand new day. I woke up early, before Abi and Amanda, and right away I had the bug to play. But I decided to begin cooking breakfast instead. I feel like I am an addict...disappointed that I am not playing but I know that this week will be better if I don't. Who knows...I may have a copy of Madden 10 to give away after this week...

Softball

On Monday we lost both games, but I went 3 for 5 with 2 singles, 1 triple, 1 walk, 2 RBI's and 3 Runs Scored. I made 5 catches in the field and threw one away...

On Thursday I played the second half of a game because that team had another injury. So I went 1 for 1 in that game with a double, 1 run scored, and 2 putouts playing 3rd base. In the game I was originally supposed to play in I went 3 for 3 with an inside the park homerun, 2 doubles, 3RBIs, and 2 runs scored. I had 3 putouts in the field and threw a runner out at home. We ended up loosing just 10-12. It was a great game.

So for those of you keeping track I am 41 for 62 on the year. Batting .661 with 25 singles, 9 doubles, 5 triples, 2 inside the park homeruns, 0 out of the park homeruns, 5 walks, 26 RBI's, 31 runs, and 0 stolen bases. I am also 43 for 49 in the field with a fielding percentage of .878.

Batting .644 with 141 singles, 34 doubles, 21 triples, 6 inside the park homeruns, 2 out of the park homerun, 12 walks, 122 RBI's, at least 138 runs, and 1 stolen base. I am also 232 of 255 in the field with a fielding percentage of .910.

The Uncle I hope to be...

I will have to admit that I have some pretty great uncles. That being said...My Uncle Gary died yesterday. He was everything that I want to be in an uncle. I remember as a kid when we would visit the great "land of Lincoln" we would always get together as a family. There would always be a room of adults and a room where the kids where playing. More times then not, My uncle Gary would be in the room with the kids. When the kids got bored...Uncle Gary would always come up with something fun to do. Most of the time it had to do with making wooden toys with my Papaw's tools...I remember going with my Papaw to Uncle Gary and Aunt Robbie's house to "help" them re-shingle their roof. I can't remember how old I was but Uncle Gary gave me a roofing hammer, a hat, a nail pouch, and some nails and then he put me to work...Probably the first time I'd touched a hammer in my life...I also remember one time we were home for Christmas, my birthday is on the 28th and usually was blended into the Christmas holiday and sometimes I couldn't tell the difference between my b-day and Christmas. Well on this particular trip I remember My uncle Gary taking me to Wal-Mart on my birthday and telling me I could pick out whatever I wanted. He said I could get a game-boy and a game or anything like that. I was totally shocked. I walked through the toy section and didn't find anything I wanted. I did want the gameboy but on my way over I saw an orange football in the sporting goods section that I wanted more. So instead of getting the $100 game boy, I opted for a $14 football with my Uncle Gary trying to talk me out of it because he wanted to spend more on me...The last story I am going to blog about is the time that I got my leg stuck in my cousin Troy's three wheeler. Troy was driving and I was sitting in front. He made a sharp turn and my leg went into the wheel and was sucked into the spoke of the axle. I remember my Uncle Gary running over and then running to get the tools needed to take the tire off to get my leg out. I had a pretty good burn on my leg. The next day we had church and Uncle Gary noticed that my leg was bothering me. So he took me out of church (probably the first time in my life I got to leave church early) and took me to Eagles grocery store and got some medicine and bandages. Then he wrapped my leg up. Uncle Gary thanks for being a great uncle!

A little behind...

Last night we played a couple more. I also forgot to blog last week about the games. We are going through a rough streak winning just 1 of the last 4 games. Last night I couldn't hit worth a hoot. But in 4 games I went 5-11 with 4 singles and 1 double, I also had 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. I made a couple of throwing errors but I did throw out 2 runners at the plate. So I went 8 for 10 in the field...

So for those of you keeping track I am 25 for 42 on the year. Batting .595 with 17 singles, 3 doubles, 4 triples, 1 inside the park homerun, 0 out of the park homeruns, 3 walks, 15 RBI's, 21 runs, and 0 stolen bases. I am also 26 for 31 in the field with a fielding percentage of .839.

Totals since April 1st 2006 (not including 2008 tourney)-I am 187 for 295. Batting .634 with 133 singles, 28 doubles, 20 triples, 5 inside the park homeruns, 2 out of the park homerun, 10 walks, 111 RBI's, at least 128 runs, and 1 stolen base. I am also 215 of 237 in the field with a fielding percentage of .907.

Graduation, One Game, 41 Students, Vacation!

On Monday I played one game because I missed the late one to go to Hillcrest Highschool Graduation. I have been in Springfield now for 4 and 1/2 years and this was my first Highschool graduation here. Let's just say that I will be attending graduations now here for a very long time. It is not that I have been purposefully skipping graduations for 4 years. It is that this year was the first year in Springfield where I've had seniors who were consistant. Also a student who I had an opportunity to lead to Christ several years back graduated as well. Congrats to all the seniors out there but especially to the 5 who have been faithfully attending Connection Youth Ministry. Our graduating classes from CYM are only getting bigger from here on out! Hello busy May for the rest of my life! It is so worth it though!

Also I am going on Vacation today. We leave in 10 minutes to go to the hills of New Mexico. We are going with most of our Transformation Group Family (Neil, Julie, Justin and Kimberly). I have been looking forward to this for a long time. I am sure Julie will post some pics in the next couple of weeks before it is said and done. She has been our group historian! Thanks Julie!

So the game on Monday we won 18-11. I went 2-4 with a walk. I had 1 single, 1 triple, 1 walk, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. I caught 2 in the field and threw a runner out at home plate. This game my arm was accurate!

So for those of you keeping track I am 20 for 31 on the year. Batting .645 with 13 singles, 2 doubles, 4 triples, 1 inside the park homerun, 0 out of the park homeruns, 3 walks, 12 RBI's, 18 runs, and 0 stolen bases. I am also 18 for 21 in the field with a fielding percentage of .857.

Totals since April 1st 2006 (not including 2008 tourney)-I am 182 for 284. Batting .641 with 129 singles, 27 doubles, 20 triples, 5 inside the park homeruns, 2 out of the park homerun, 10 walks, 108 RBI's, at least 125 runs, and 1 stolen base. I am also 207 of 227 in the field with a fielding percentage of .912.

Softball update

We played 2 pretty good games on Monday night. The first game we won 12-11 in 8 innings. I went 3 for 4 with a single, double, and an inside the park homerun. I had 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. I caught 6 in the field and threw a runner out at second base. My inside the park homerun in the top of the eighth was the winner!

The second game didn't go so well for us. We lost 15-10 but that is almost like a win for us considering we were playing central assembly. I went 1-3 in the loss with a single, and an RBI. I caught 2 balls in the field but threw 2 balls away.

So for those of you keeping track I am 18 for 27 on the year. Batting .667 with 12 singles, 2 doubles, 3 triples, 1 inside the park homerun, 0 out of the park homeruns, 2 walks, 10 RBI's, 15 runs, and 0 stolen bases. I am also 15 for 18 in the field with a fielding percentage of .833.

Totals since April 1st 2006 (not including 2008 tourney)-I am 180 for 280. Batting .643 with 128 singles, 27 doubles, 19 triples, 5 inside the park homeruns, 2 out of the park homerun, 9 walks, 106 RBI's, at least 122 runs, and 1 stolen base. I am also 204 of 224 in the field with a fielding percentage of .911.

Ups, Ups, Ooops, and losses

The past couple of weeks has been pretty amazing. Abi's B-day and Amanda's B-day were very fun this year. I am so amazed how God has blessed me with 2 very awesome girls...well three if you count Rory...to spend my every days with.

We have continued to increase the size of the Student Ministry at First Church. Last week we had 41 students and last night we had 43. To celebrate the first time we reached the 40 student mark I took a dive into our new drainage pond at the church. I will try to attach a vid that one of the students took on her cell phone.

I also got to play a couple game of softball on Monday night. We didn't win either game but we had fun anyways. In both games I went 4 for 6 with 4 singles, 1 walk, 1 RBI, 3 Runs Scored, I went 4 for 5 in the field as I dropped a ball I most definitely should have caught...I guess that is why the MLB scouts passed me up...

So for those of you keeping track I am 14 for 20 on the year. Batting .700 with 10 singles, 1 double, 3 triples, 0 inside the park homeruns, 0 out of the park homeruns, 2 walks, 6 RBI's, 13 runs, and 0 stolen bases. I am also 6 for 7 in the field with a fielding percentage of .857.

Totals since April 1st 2006 (not including 2008 tourney)-I am 176 for 273. Batting .645 with 126 singles, 26 doubles, 19 triples, 4 inside the park homeruns, 2 out of the park homerun, 9 walks, 102 RBI's, at least 120 runs, and 1 stolen base. I am also 195 of 213 in the field with a fielding percentage of .915.

Fishing, Game, Party, Game

Friday I went fishing with my dad and nephew. I ended my streak of catching my limit at Roaring River by only catching three fish. My dad caught four but my nephew didn't catch any. The water was murky so that limited my skills as a professed sight fisherman. It was really great being able to fish again with my dad who has been wandering the globe. Also if you are reading this I wanted to tell you all how proud I am of my nephew. He was baptized at the beginning of April and he is growing up to be an awesome kid!

The first Softball game we played on Saturday morning we won 14-7. I went 1 for 4 at the plate with 1 single, and 2 runs scored. I didn't have a single ball hit to me.

The party went great. Amanda worked really hard and made some pretty awesome cakes. When I get the picks I'll post them on here. She put a lot of time and energy in to making sure our little girl had a very special day. It was also Amanda's birthday but just like in so many other instances, Amanda generally always puts others above herself.

The second softball game was my first co-ed softball game of the year. Our two co-ed church teams were playing each other. We lost by a bunch but I had fun. I went 2 for 2 with 2 singles, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. I didn't have any balls hit to me during this game either so my favorite part of the game is defense so it was pretty quiet for me out in the field on Saturday.

So for those of you keeping track I am 10 for 14 on the year. Batting .714 with 6 singles, 1 double, 3 triples, 0 inside the park homeruns, 0 out of the park homeruns, 1 walk, 5 RBI's, 10 runs, and 0 stolen bases. I am also 2 for 2 in the field with a fielding percentage of 1.000.

Totals since April 1st 2006 (not including 2008 tourney)-I am 172 for 267. Batting .644 with 122 singles, 26 doubles, 19 triples, 4 inside the park homeruns, 2 out of the park homerun, 8 walks, 101 RBI's, at least 117 runs, and 1 stolen base. I am also 191 of 208 in the field with a fielding percentage of .918.

The Season Begins

Last night was the start to my 2009 softball season. We have been rained out the first 2 weeks but last night was a blast. Abi was awesome as she was there cheering for her Daddy! The first game we won 19-4. This is pretty awesome considering we lost the second place game in the tournament last September, 2 to 1. So we have found our bats again. In this game I went 4 for 5 with 2 singles, 1 double, and 1 triple. I had 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. I also had one putout in the game.

The second game we lost 16-17 and I was thrown out at the plate to end the game...I thought I was safe...but I felt really bad because Neil was getting ready to hit and he probably would have drove me home...Sorry Neil...In this game I went 3 for 3 with 2 triples, 1 single, and 1 walk. I had 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. I also had 1 putout in the field.

So for those of you keeping track I am 7 for 8 on the year. Batting .875 with 3 singles, 1 double, 3 triples, 0 inside the park homeruns, 0 out of the park homerun, 1 walk, 3 RBI's, 6 runs, and 0 stolen bases. I am also 2 for 2 in the field with a fielding percentage of 1.000.

Totals since April 1st 2006 (not including 2008 tourney)-I am 169 for 261. Batting .648 with 119 singles, 26 doubles, 19 triples, 4 inside the park homeruns, 2 out of the park homerun, 8 walks, 99 RBI's, at least 113 runs, and 1 stolen base. I am also 191 of 208 in the field with a fielding percentage of .918.

This weekend is filled with fishing, softball, and also with the big B-Day Party. It is going to be AWESOME! I am looking forward to seeing mom, dad, Noah and Saige!
